How Do I Say I Love You?

Question of the Week

Say I love you

Dear Miss LARE,

I’m in a long term relationship, and I’ve gotten tired of the same old things. I love you doesn’t seem to cut it anymore. It feels like we are going through the same old motions, and nothing really means anything anymore.

How do I say I love you in a way that’s meaningful?

Signed,

Desperate for Ideas

Dear Desperate,

I totally understand. I get you. After a while, it seems like we are on autopilot. So let’s shake things up a little bit. Below I’ve listed ways to show your love. It’s easy peasy. You can find all kinds of ideas. Like I say every day, the little things embody romance too!

I highly recommend Gregory Godek, even though his books are kind of old fashioned. Sometimes it’s good to go back to the old ways. He was one of the original romance coaches. I don’t think he has a website anymore, but you can find used copies here.

Let me know how it goes,

Miss LARE

Say I Love You

Here’s some ways to say I love you in different languages.

  • French: Je t’aime
  • Mandarin: 我愛你 (Wǒ ài nǐ)
  • Spanish: Te amo (romantic)
  • Italian: Ti amo
  • Navajo: Ayóó’ánííníshní
  • German: Ich liebe dich
  • Hawaiian: Aloha wau iā ʻoe
  • Korean: 사랑해요 (salanghaeyo)
  • Swedish: jag älskar dig
  • Greek: Σε αγαπώ (Se agapó)

On the Cheap

  • Write a love letter: By hand, PLEASE! Free, if you have pen and paper.
  • Noteworthy Heart: Buy 1-2 packages of 3×3 Post-Its, in either red or pink. Write your lover’s name on each one, and put them on a wall in the shape of a heart. Less than $5
  • Chores: One weekend, do their chores. Or if they had a bad day. Or surprise them when they get home from work. Just costs your time
  • Massage: In Call in for Murder, there is a tip sheet at the end discussing it. It only costs you some massage oil.
  • News Bulletin: On your phone, create a selfie video telling a story of how you met, a special date, or just saying I love you. Email it to them. Free! Technological knowledge is all you need.
  • Movie Night: Grab a favorite movie, pop some popcorn, a couple bottles of soda, and a blanket. Cuddle during the movie. Less than $10!

I would start with this post to make sure you do what is perfect for your situation!

Let me know if you need more ideas, or if you have any of your own I can add to my repertoire
